Expectations for the Justice System?

What do it mean to be a felon? Or to be know as a Mother of a felon.

What do it mean to be a felon? Or to be know as a Mother of  a felon.
The American Heritage Dictionary states:
felon n. 1. law. A person who has committed a felony

Now what is a felony?

felony n. 1. any of several crimes, such as murder, rape, or burglary, considered more serious than a  misdemeanor and publishable by a more stringent sentence.

We have children that wear this name like a badge of honor. I hear them, when they ask, if they could get a job doing something that, looks like it would great/fun. They shout it out "I am a felon".

And, the other person, did not even asks or expect that to come from that person.
 What do this sticker or name do to a person deem wicked? How do a mother conduct herself in making the adjustment to this new life, with police, court dates, etc.?

Why should I care

As a Mother who was once  in the shoes as many others out there. I felt the shame of having a child that committed a criminal offence. How do I not let people know what has happen. What will they think about me. I am a professional. I wanted to run for public office. Why me Lord? Why me?

Now I had to take this walk along. I did not have friends that had been down this lonely road of dispersed.
Feeling as I had wrong my child for he did not have a father. It was my fault.

This is why I care. This is a role someone must fill. To be there and point the direction one must take, in dealing with the criminal justice system.

Online support groups

I have this idea that mothers need to someone to talk to, make some sense of that which is happening to them since their child has enter the criminal justice system. I was once there. I see others mothers, grandmothers etc. reaching out to see if others will help them make sense of the matter. I am just stepping out to see what I can do to make a difference in the lives of women who are now dragged into this way of life. Thanks!
